Explore Myrtle Beach’s Waccamaw River on a Kayak
This four-hour South Carolina kayak tour leaves from Wacca Wache Landing, and we paddle up the Waccamaw River and into a little creek that takes us to a dock on Sandy Island.
Get the cypress swamp experience which is very similar to our two-hour cypress tour. What makes Sandy Island special is that we get out onto the island and take an awesome 45-minute walk through the longleaf pine sandhills that cover the island and see a Carolina Bay that is home to very rare and unusual carnivorous plants.
We break for lunch (please pack your own picnic lunch!) and then we paddle around some more and end up back at the landing. The snakes and alligators are abundant (but still harmless), and we see a great number of birds including nesting osprey and great blue herons.
This is our guides’ favorite kayak tour during the milder months (March through November) and offers the best chance to see alligators. It can get pretty quiet, but still beautiful, in the colder months.
